Here are some bread-making tips from Emerson Creek Pottery!

  • For optimal results, choose a bread recipes that are rustic and hearty rather than sweet and buttery.
  • Recipes that require between 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 cups of flour fit best in pan.
  • Covered pan is made to hold up to 2 lbs. of dough.
  • Excellent for baking no-knead method breads as well!
  • Always grease or oil your Bread Pan, and please be advised that butter burns easily. We recommend Crisco, or olive oil!
  • Unlike a terracotta bread pan, it is unnecessary to soak this pan before use.
  • Keep your bake covered until the final 15 minutes to achieve a crispy golden crust.

Product Care

How to Clean:

  • We recommend wiping clean with warm water.
  • Do not use soap, as the baking pan can take on the scents and flavors of soap.
  • Don't worry about spots and stains! Those are the hallmarks of a well-seasoned bread pan.

Pottery Specifications:

  • Drastic temperature changes (from the refrigerator to the hot oven) may cause cracking
  • Room temperature to cool oven is best
  • Allow pottery to cool before placing in refrigerator or dishwasher
  • Do not broil or place on a stovetop burner
  • Do not store in freezer
  • Pottery may scratch finished surfaces — avoid by using a trivet
  • Do not leave pottery outdoors in winter – temperature fluctuations can crack pottery
  • Remove marks with a kitchen abrasive, like Bar Keeper’s Friend
  • High quality steel cutlery will not mark the pottery
  • Pottery can break if dropped on a hard surface
