Happy International Women's Day
International Women’s Day began in 1911 as a call for equality, and today, we honor not just the progress made but the everyday strength, kindness, and wisdom of women everywhere.

At Modern Prairie, we are endlessly inspired by the grace, support, and friendships blossoming in this beautiful community. You remind us daily that when women lift each other up, incredible things happen.

Today, we invite you to celebrate with us—drop a tribute in the comments to the woman who has shaped your life the most. A mother, a sister, a mentor, a friend—who inspires you every day?
We can't wait to read each and every tribute, and we'll be celebrating these wonderful women with you!
Let’s fill this space with love and gratitude. 💜✨

Hi, I’m Barbara, and the women who inspire me are those Nurses who came before me, the “old school” Nurses who worked long hours in a world of Medicine so different from today’s moder Medicine. These women were innovative in their field from those who served in War times (all wars especially during mid 1800’s – early 1900’s). The majority of my inspiration comes from a Nurse close to me I’m a 2nd generation Nurse. My Mother served in WWII & Korea, she was wounded in Philippines, but persevered throughout her life and career with that leg injury. She taught me work ethics, integrity, compassion and duty. At 49 becoming a widow and raising 2 teen girls while working longer hours and providing. This demonstrated to me I too could work, support my family and accomplish so much more throughout my career. I am thankful for all those who inspired a "Calling " to service who modeled what Nursing was and continues to be through growth, compassion and a passion for knowledge.
My daughters! They are strong and independent and creative. Family and community come 1st with them. They have powerful voices and fierce convictions. They make me strive to do better.
My Annie
You came into my life 30 years ago linking every loving thing I already possessed in a way that was forever wrapped in your aura.
To this day, the sun rises and the birds sing and the snow shimmers especially true on each day I spend with you.
My wish for you always:
May the tracks be first, the runs be long, and the friends ring true today and always.
You are light and love and beauty in all things, my dearest daughter Annie.
My mother was my best friend. She went through divorce and breast cancer and never complained. She was a woman of faith who taught me about Jesus and was an example in the way she lived.
