As we stand on the cusp of a new year, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we've embarked on together in 2023. It has been a year filled with moments that have brought us closer as a community, sparked inspiration, and provided a platform for hope and rediscovery.
Our virtual events have been a tapestry of experiences—from the joyous chaos of pie and cookie making to the introspective exploration of watercolor. We've traveled solo, created stunning floral arrangements, and navigated the challenging terrain of loss with hope and humility. Each event, each interaction, has woven a thread into the fabric of our collective story.
To those who have been with us from the very beginning, thank you for being the foundation of this incredible community. They say never look back, but sometimes, looking back allows us to appreciate how far we've come. And oh, how far we've come together.
As we bid farewell to this year, my heart is brimming with hope and optimism for the future—a future shaped by the strength and beauty of our collective voices. When we launched Modern Prairie, we had no inkling of the transformative power that our community would wield. But here we are—amazing, aging gratefully, and unapologetically embracing every moment.
As we approach the new year, I encourage you to take a moment for introspection. Set your intentions—how do you want to feel, what do you aspire to do, and what inspires you? Embrace the process of choosing a word of the year, a powerful and attainable alternative to resolutions.
My word for the upcoming year is "help." How can I make a more significant impact on others? Where can I be most helpful? The depth and meaning in this simple four-letter word are profound, and I am eager to explore its many facets in the coming months.
I invite you to join me, Sandy, and Susie on January 14th as we share our words of the year and create a collective vision for the journey ahead. It promises to be a wonderful way to kick off the new year, united in our aspirations and connected by the spirit of Modern Prairie.

With gratitude and anticipation,

HI there Melissa. I grew up watching Little House on the Prairie and was absolutely enthralled and LOVED it. It was the best program I have ever watched and looked forward to each week. I just bought the entire set of DVD’s. You are really beautiful now that you have decided to grow your years naturally. What a lovely representation for woman growing into their own. I am so pleased to see this as I’m older than you and can fully understand your current lifestyle with your husband and the peace, beauty and tranquility that results from living such a rich and natural life with the animals/nature. I am a staunch animal lover so was pleased to find out that you feel the same. I am so happy that you decided to branch out with these beautiful clothes and launch the business for Modern Prairie. I hope I can get a few items before they are gone! Up to now, most of what I’ve loved is gone. I’m from Canada and I keep hoping that some things I love will be back. Before I was able to see the whole series on TV, I read the books when I was young and wished so fervently I was living there in that time period of simpler times, nature, and community. I could feel it in my bones! You are such an awesome, wonderful inspiration world wide Melissa. Thank you for being such a beacon of Light. Kindest regards and Blessings to You Half Pint! Beth Palmer
We are so excited to bring our whole family to the 50th celebration. I’m taking my 4 kids out of school to join the celebration because we watch LHOTP most every night. Joining you from KY and can’t wait to meet you! I’ve only recently fell on the modern prairie website and bought a few things and what a treasure! Thanks for offering such special items. My baby girl loves the gown! Many blessings!
I am so happy to have found Modern Prairie. I am uplifted by your stories. At 56 I am starting to feel it… and haven’t been happy with myself and the way I look. As a little girl I heard every school year, “You look like Laura on Little House on the Prairie!” I took that as a compliment, and now as my children confirm that I still resemble you, I am asked to embrace how I look, because I see you as beautiful. Thank you for all you invest in Modern Prairie.
Hi from freezing Essex in the UK. Growing up, LHOTP, was my favourite programme. I dreamt of being Laura and spending my time fishing. Now I am 60yrs old, and yearn, for a slower and simpler, pace of life. I am looking forward yo being part of this wonderful community. Thank you ‘half pint’….xxxx
Hi Everyone, I’ve just found this site all the way here in Chilly Scotland and I’m loving everything about it!
