Keeping the Holidays Personal: DIY Gifts That Create Memories

Keeping the Holidays Personal: DIY Gifts That Create Memories

The holidays have a magical way of bringing us together, but let’s be honest—sometimes, the pressure to find the “perfect” gift can take away from what really matters. This year, I want to encourage all of us to slow down and make the season personal by giving gifts that create connections, memories, and a little piece of ourselves.

Instead of another store-bought “thing,” why not try a DIY gift? There’s something so special about giving something you’ve made with love and intention. Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

DIY Holiday Gift Ideas:

1. Brownie Mix in a Batter Bowl
Fill one of our beautiful batter bowls with all the dry ingredients for a rich brownie mix. Include a handwritten recipe card tied with twine, and voila—you’ve given the gift of an experience and something delicious to bake on a cozy winter day.

2. Pancake Mix with Homemade Syrup
Whip up a jar of homemade syrup (maple, berry, or vanilla-infused are my favorites!) and pair it with a batch of pancake mix. Wrap it in a tea towel or tuck it into one of our handcrafted bowls for a breakfast gift they’ll never forget.

    3. Cookies in a Porringer
Bake up a batch of your favorite cookies and package them in one of our stoneware porringers. It’s a gift that’s both thoughtful and reusable—perfect for someone who appreciates both sweets and sustainable living.

      4. Hot Cocoa Kit
Layer cocoa mix, marshmallows, and crushed peppermint in a mason jar. Pair it with a beautiful mug, and you’ve got a gift that warms the heart and the soul.
      5. DIY Ornaments or Decorations
Create handmade ornaments with your family to give as keepsakes. Include a note about what inspired the design—personal touches make these gifts so meaningful.

DIY: Not Just “Do It Yourself”

Let’s reimagine what DIY can stand for during the holidays:

        • Dare to Inspire You: Create gifts that inspire others to slow down and enjoy the little things.
        • Delight in Your Intentions: Focus on the meaning behind your gift, not just the item itself.
        • Design Incredible Yesterdays: Build memories that will last a lifetime, turning today’s gift into tomorrow’s treasured story.

        Why DIY?

Because we need more connection, more thoughtfulness, and more joy in our lives. The holidays aren’t about how much we spend or how many gifts we give—they’re about the memories we create with the people we love. When you gift something handmade or personalized, you’re not just giving an item; you’re giving an experience and a piece of yourself.

So this holiday season, let’s keep it personal. Let’s get creative. And most importantly, let’s make memories that will last for years to come.

What are some of your favorite DIY gift ideas? I’d love to hear them—let’s inspire each other this holiday season. 💛

        Warmly,
        Melissa

I love the idea of connecting and simplicity at Christmas. I’ve been purchasing MP items for everyone on my list this year. Less stress and I’ve been buying thru the year so it’s offset the cost.
The quality and style of all your products, top notch. Thank you for making my gift (birthday, holiday snd just cause) so special.

Blessings to you and the Moder Prairie team for a happy & healthy New Year 🩷💛🧡
